The
constellation Taurus shines over Bryce Canyon, Utah
The
13th brightest star in the sky, the red giant star,
Aldebaran and the blue stars of the Hyades Cluster
in Taurus shine above Bryce Canyon National Monument
in Utah. Aldebaran means "the Follower"
in Arabic, is 60 light years away, 350 times more
luminous than the Sun, and 40 times larger than the
Sun. In most of the drawings of Taurus, Aldebaran
makes the Bull's eye, and the Hyades make the rest
of the Bulls face. Aldebaran is a class K star
that passes to the north of the Sun every year around
June 1. It is also a low- level irregular variable
star that rotates once every two years. Some believe
this irregularity is due to Aldebaran having its own
solar system.
