| KACHINA CARVINGS | ||||
|
The Kachina "doll" was originally carved as a gift and learning tool for the child to learn about its many Gods. Today, they are highly sought after sculptures. They are still hand carved, usually out of cottonwood root, and painted with earth tones or vivid colors. Early Kachinas were simple in appearance, entirely of wood, with little or no adornment. Modern times brought changes in appearances with feathers, fur, shells, leather, yarn, etc. being added as decorations to the traditional 'doll'. All Kachinas shown are one of a kind hand carved Kachinas. Each of the carvings at Work of Artists are individually signed by the artist, and they are all fully guaranteed for authenticity. |
